Far Cry 2 Empty Re: Far Cry 2

aight some reviews so far on far cry 2...

supposedly super hard from the 1st mission to the last.. and if u pre-order from gamestop their game comes with 3 more hours of gameplay.. am not sure but supposedly it does..

supposedly this game takes out the run and gun tactic of most people. the first mission people are already shooting at you all over the place so you actually have to hide..so it seems like R6V but who knows... i could never run and gun on the story mode anyway.. in r6v..

as for snipers.. easier to get into camp with a sniper without bein detected.. this is a con to some people.. but the whole point of sniping is being able to get into camp without being detected... but who knows...

also one of my co workers told me that the people reviewing the game said it was so hard that they had to tell themselves its just a game.. i don't know anymore though.. this seems like a kewl game.. but i don't know if i'll enjoy it.. the only thing i like so far is the map editor.. and some of the gameplay i've seen.. i wonder hwo co-op is? and how many can be co-op that be crazy if we are all in co-op again.. haheheh

Far Cry 2 Empty Re: Far Cry 2

so i did get the game. thanks to maris for getting me the game...

first impressions:
the game graphics are top notch. the new DUNIA engine that ubi developed works extremely well. just check out the flames when you throw a molotov cocktail on a piece of brush. gameplay is new but still familiar. think R6V2 meets COD4 with the controls with the mission play of MGS4. the play area is extremely huge!!! 50 sq.km. total to explore...!!! vehicles are a welcome addition and is reminiscent of the type of action that was present in Halo3. jeeps with turrets will be available in later missions. not sure if there will be a hangglider, but that would be pretty cool as well...

i tried jumping on to some online action as well. it's close to COD4 in that it's not really one shot kills anymore. it's actually pretty refreshing that they got out of doing that. couldn't kill anyone. i will have to give it a try again tonight. you can't really make your own character. you choose classes ala COD4.

if you get the game at gamestop, you get an extra 6 missions to do as their exclusive content.

so that's it for now fellas. only played for about 1.5 hours last night, with about an hour dedicated to the first couple missions (mostly tutorials). now i'm ready to embark on a real mission.

derek has just informed me that he'll get the game once we have more people playing.

can't wait to start building out the "San Diego Compound" map. hee hee... maybe i'll do that tonight. mess around with the map editor.

Far Cry 2 Empty Far Cry 2 - Online Review

Post  FreshBukoJuice Sun Oct 26, 2008 8:57 pm

so i gave the multiplayer a go on FC2. and i was pleasantly surprised... the games are pretty lag free.

there's a good mix of maps. some huge, some close combat. the controls are pretty easy and you can pretty much pick it up quickly especially as an R6V veteran. the maps are really the star of the multiplayer experience. since the game comes with a pretty robust map editor, people are inclined to build and publish maps no matter how crazy they are. makes for an interesting night.

the majority of maps available right now are sniper maps. players take advantage of the "huge" available playable area that in order to get a leg up on the competition, sniping is a must. about 90% of the time i spent playing online were on huge maps. it's refreshing to get to a close quarter combat mode where anything goes. here's a fun tip, use your machete.!!! he he he...

the upgrades are weird though. weapon system is loosely based on the COD4 system. you have to earn diamonds to earn your upgrades.

map editor will take some getting used to. i attempted to make the san diego marikina compound and i was dumbfounded and frustrated at the clunkiness of controls... but when you do get to play one designed by a player, there's some fucked up folks out there. maps are laid out crazy... impossible mountaintops, maze like maps, terrain changes, vehicles all make for a crazy map system.

there are a couple issues i have with the multiplayer system. ranking up is not saved. i don't know if this is a bug but whatever you earn in one session, isn't saved to your profile. the next time you log on, you're back to 1. like i said, not sure if this is a bug. also, players tend to play their custom maps. which delays loading time and the maps are not usually well balanced. just make sure you get a map that's always published my Ubi Montreal. then you know it's one of the default maps that loads with the game.

that's it for now fellas... i have to say this is a very welcome experience going from R6V2. this game takes the best of COD4 and R6V2 and puts them in one good package. aside from that, it ups the ante in terms of computer AI in the story mode that would rival the AI in MGS4. so i'm pretty impressed with this game.

hope to see you soon in the game...

enjoyed the assessment Buks. i remember wanting to get FC for the original xbox.....but for some reason, i was never able to pick it up. anyway, thats gotta suck that it doesnt save your "ranking up" if you play online. its gotta be some sort of bug. Ubi better fix that shiz. as far as picking up the game......to be honest it'll be tough right now. between hockey (ie. hockey equipment, sticks, and skate sharpenings....which all really adds up), wanting to get a PSP 3000 (which is 2 bones), and a plethora of other great games that are out/coming out, it may be a while before i pick up FC2. and by then, there may be another game that you guys a heavy into. sorry man. i'll let you know if i happen to pick it up though.

by the way....is the FC2 map editor anything like Halo 3's map editor?? cus i personally thought Halo 3's map editor was extremely easy to use, and it worked well too.

not sure how the map editor in halo 3 worked, but this one, it's just too huge...

although last night i played in a map loosely based on the CRASH map in COD4. i had to admit, it was pretty nice...

that's too bad regarding your feeling for the game. guess those days of the original R6V are long gone. guess i'll just have to get together with different people now. all good... everyone's got their own priorities. it's just that i haven't been excited about a game since R6V. oh well... whatever... no expectations since i know how some of you guys are with regards to who runs the finances in the household. gotta get a sign off from the director, no? he he he... all good...

Post  FreshBukoJuice Fri Oct 31, 2008 1:44 pm

so i'm only 8% into the game and i've played about 12+ hours already. this game is HUGE!!!! it's pretty intense especially if you're running around with no ammo and you're trying to avoid scouting troops who have machine guns on their jeeps. you gotta avoid being shot as well as avoid getting run over. ha ha ha... that's the craziest sound you'll here in the game, the sound of an engine revving up getting ready to run your ass over. ha ha ha... makes for some heart pounding action. ha ha ha...

in any case, even though it has a main story line, the way you get to the end is entirely completely up to you. wanna unlock all the weapons first, then go ahead. wanna help your buddies out, then go ahead. eventually, it'll all work towards your main story line. so it's pretty interesting. not as linear as most FPS games.

so now that i've had the game for about 2 weeks, i'm kinda getting sick of it. mainly for one reason, i really, REALLY hate the fact that you can't keep your rankings when playing multiplayer. sux ass!!! everytime you leave a server, your rankings reset back to 1. stupid as hell... in any case, i'll probably trade this in soon. the controls and visuals are great, but the multiplayer experience is horrible. though i'm really looking forward to february when Killzone 2 and SF4 are both slated to come out.

t - i still owe you NHL 09. just haven't had the chance to give it to you...
